SE24 - Short Range Devices

Latest news

SE24 met 30-31 August in Montegrotto and considered the following items:

  • Regarding SRD spectrum efficiency SE24_23), a number of web meetings were organised in order to progress on this issue. In particular, the hiden node problem was initially considered. Administrations are invited to contribute by providing their experience on congestion situation.
  • The comments relating to draft ECC Report 149 on Low Power-Active Medical Implant (LP-AMI) were considered. The results will be presented at the next WG SE meeting (13-17 September 2010).
  • Studies relating to UWB as described in Annex to CEPT Report 34 (excluding Airborne UWB) (SE24_28): The working document was reviewed. Measurement relating to compatibility between UWB devices and Wimax devices was considered and will be further considered. The ECO Forum will be used in order to make additional progress on LT2 and LTA (http://forum.ero.dk/).
  • Compatibility studies on SRR 26 GHz including WLAM (SE24_31):
    • the working document on SRR was finalised and will be presented to the next WG SE meeting (September 2010) in order to be sent to Public Consultation.
    • the work relatring to WLAM is still on going.
  • Surveillance Radar (SE24_33) the group considered questions relating to the regulatory framework for those devices and ask SRDMG for guidance on this.
  • Airborne UWB in the frequency bands 3.1 - 4.8 GHz and 6 - 8.5 GHz (SE24_35): progress was done through the collection of material relating to the fuselage attenuation.  inclusion of additional material relating to compatibility studies. Initial document dealing with measurement was developed. The ECO Forum will be used in order to make additional progress (http://forum.ero.dk/). A web meeting will be organised in order to progress on the modelling of the fuselage.

The 1 September 2010, the third joint SRDMG-SE24 meeting was organised in order to consider the subjects of common interest. In particular, the meeting considered the possible revision of Annex 1 to ERC/REC 70-03 in order to increase the existing frequency range 61.0 – 61.5 GHz to 57 – 66 GHz. It was agreed that the frequency range 59-63 GHz should be the minimum extension to be considered for possible worldwide harmonisation and should be the initial band to be considered by SE24 for the compatibility studies.

  • Latest deliverables:

    • ECC Report 135: Inductive limits in the frequency range 9 to 148.5 kHz
    • ECC Report 139: Impact of LPR, using Ultra-Wideband Technology on Radiocommunications Services
    • ECC Report 140: Compatibility between RLAN on board aircraft and radars in the bands 5250-5350 / 5470-5725 MHz
    • ECC Report 147: Additional compatibility studies relating to PWMS in the band 1518-1559 MHz excluding the band 1543.45-1543.95 / 1544-1545 MHz

Ongoing work

Under the direction of WG SE:

  • Undertake compatibility studies in support of WG FM activities on SRD, in particular those relating to the maintenance of the Recommendation ERC/REC 70-03.

  • In the course of these studies, co-ordinate in liaison with SRD/MG the relevant activities in ITU-R.
